Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.
Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed program reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
On the Incredible Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to ignore the noise.
“It's like being constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”
“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.
The Big Question: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?
Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.
“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a good idea for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
Then again, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.
“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”
Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?
“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
