Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
