The Princess of Wales's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
