The Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the final seventh game of the ALCS.

Behind 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "What an incredible feeling."

Springer has now connected for twenty-three post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of anyone else anywhere that I'd choose in that moment other than Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the early in the series, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their work in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of this game," he remarked.

Toronto's team secured the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
