New York Introduces Portal for Residents to Share ICE Footage After Arrests of Four US Citizens

New York state attorney general has rolled out a fresh reporting form asking citizens to submit photos and videos of immigration raids around the state. This action comes just a shortly after a significant ICE raid shook Manhattan's Chinatown, sparking widespread outcry.

American Citizens Arrested In ICE Operation

A lawmaker disclosed during a Wednesday press conference that four American citizens were arrested and kept for "almost a full day" after the previous day's operation. Demonstrations occurred in New York on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

"All New York residents deserves to reside free from terror," the attorney general stated in a statement.

"For those who saw and documented immigration enforcement yesterday, I ask you to share that footage with my office. We are dedicated to reviewing these submissions and evaluating any legal breaches."

Submission Process

The form includes options to send images and video footage of the operation, along with a section to indicate location information. When submitting, users must check a option that states that "the office could utilize any documents, photographs, or videos in a legal proceeding, such as in a court case or government document."

Information about the ICE Action

The enforcement action, which observers say featured dozens of ICE personnel, took place in a well-known neighborhood of NYC where fake purses, items, goods and additional items are commonly traded widely – often to tourists.

Videos of Tuesday's raid reveal numerous covered and weaponized personnel securing and holding a man, and shoving away bystanders. Crowds of residents trailed the officers through the streets. An armored military vehicle was noticed rolling through the urban roads.

Political Response

During a Wednesday press conference featuring the rights organization, Representative Goldman, a Democrat, announced that four American citizens were detained by ICE for about 24 hours and that there were "no circumstances where US citizens should be arrested for without cause." He noted the citizens were freed on Wednesday with no accusations made.

"The goal is evident here. It is not about removing offenders," he remarked. "This is a military-style operation to incite tension. It is merely a excuse to generate turmoil for the government to deploy the military to prevent conflict that they initiated."

Extensive Outcry

Anger over the federal action quickly spread – all three mayoral candidates condemned the incident, as did the state leader.

"Yet again, the federal government opts for heavy-handed tactics that instill panic, not safety. It must stop," a political candidate declared.

NYC immigrant rights groups expressed outrage too.

"Federal officers raided Chinatown in NYC with military-style vehicles, masked agents and tactical gear to go after street vendors trying to make a living. This raid had no relation to community security and focused completely on frightening communities and neighborhoods," said the head of a rights organization.

Agency Rules

ICE policy prohibits the holding of citizens and the agency has stated it will not take into custody citizens. Yet, external research has found that more than 170 citizens have been held against their will by federal agents during the period of the current administration.

Current Situation

ICE raids have been rising in frequency in NY and nationwide lately.

A recent action in the city center was the first known raid on an housing center of the current administration. Protests opposing federal operations are commonplace as are accusations of force and cruel conditions.

Latest, a submission provided by advocacy organizations stated healthcare failures of women with child in government custody.
