Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
