Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
An important representative said the vandalism left him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
