Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Send Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The effort aims to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It has a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded following a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The notable list of performers appearing on Lullaby encompasses a selection of well-known figures from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of music creators. The song blends a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The group managing the initiative have emphasized that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These donations will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a specific target,” a representative said. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the area was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings described as destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is above all raising awareness for this issue and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
