Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with results like these.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
